Annual Traditions

Holy Week at Central Baptist Church in Chesterfield, VA
Central Baptist is a community with rich traditions, both new and old! In addition to our community events, here are some regular traditions that are part of our church life:

Central follows the church calendar and observes liturgical seasons such as Lent and Advent, offering special services and events as part of those observances. We begin Lent with an Ash Wednesday service and end with Holy Week services – Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday (including tenebrae), and an early Easter Sunday celebration service followed by a homemade breakfast.

Our Advent services include Hanging of the Greens (decorating the sanctuary), a cantata offered by our sanctuary choir, and two Christmas Eve services (one family-focused, one traditional candlelight service).

In addition, we have other annual traditions such as the Children’s Easter Egg Hunt, Spring Renewal (spring), celebrating our graduating students (June), a 4th of July picnic and concert (July), and a church-wide chili-cook off and pumpkin carving (October).
